Planning win for over 135 new homes in Kennington
Hawkins\Brown’s designs are for 139 new rental homes and more than 2,700 sqm of light industrial space at Montford Place, Lambeth
The proposals by Connected Living London (CLL) – the formal partnership between Grainger plc and Transport for London (TfL) – have been given the go ahead at planning committee and will include 40 per cent affordable housing, delivered across two buildings over a central mews street.
Offering a mixture of studio, one, two and three bedroom properties, the buildings will also feature solar panels, roof gardens, hedges and bird boxes to help provide shelter and roosting sites for birds.
Residents will benefit from access to numerous sustainable travel options nearby, with Vauxhall, Kennington and Oval stations all located within ten minutes’ walking distance.
The 2,700 sqm of light industrial workspace is designed to reference the area’s industrial heritage, creating a viable space for a wide range of local businesses, such as a fashion studio, photography workspace or a cycle repair shop.
The central mews street will also be a community focal point, providing space for pop-up markets and street food vendors.
Our scheme at Montford Place is a truly mixed-use development. It will provide new rental homes that are desperately needed and will contribute to the local economy by delivering a significant amount of great commercial space that will enable business to flourish.
This is another great milestone for Connected Living London and will see the delivery of much needed quality rental homes for people in Lambeth. We look forward to seeing this vibrant new mixed-use community brought to life.
