Hawkins\Brown to revitalise Glasgow waterfront
Development of Custom House Quay and Carlton Place along the River Clyde will help create a ‘river park’ for Glasgow
Hawkins\Brown’s design will create an attractive waterfront area by extending the River Clyde’s north bank outside the Grade A-listed Custom House, while also providing an enhanced green space on the opposite south bank at Carlton Place.
Funded by the Glasgow City Region City Deal, the project will upgrade the quay walls by expanding the embankment out into the Clyde, creating mixed-use development plots and enhancing public realm and access along the waterfront.
The development will reconnect the city centre to the river, providing a more public, green space and establishing an attractive river frontage that will help fulfil the city’s aspirations of having a ‘river park.’
Hawkins\Brown is leading the design team alongside Civic Engineers, in a team the includes Harrison Stevens, Urban Movement, Arch Henderson, JLL, New Practice, Turley, Atelier Ten, Turner & Townsend and ITP Energised.
The public consultation for the first stage of this project is hoped to take place during the summer months.
The project offers the opportunity to reconnect Glasgow City Centre to the River Clyde - reactivating the river frontage and making this a place for the people of the city to use and enjoy
