Hawkins\Brown Charity Art Auction
We were delighted to host a Charity Art Auction in July to raise money for Accumulate, our London studio’s charity of the year for 2020!
Accumulate is an art school for the Homeless that delivers creative courses and learning experiences for young people affected by homelessness, helping to build their skills, develop their well-being and improve their lives through creativity.
A selection of our creative colleagues kindly donated their own artwork for this great cause, and there was a wide variety of pieces on sale. From portrait sitting, to watercolours, to terrazzo trays, we saw a high level of engagement and managed to raise a total of £1,486, topped up by Hawkins\Brown to £2,000.
The money raised through the auction and donations has gone towards awarding the Hawkins\Brown / Accumulate Scholorship to Nikol Dehaan. It provides full funding to study on the Access to Higher Education Diploma Course at Ravensbourne University London!
The Virtual Showcase and Scholarship ceremony took place on 24 July on zoom. We saw inspiring artwork created by Accumulate students, five scholarships awarded, a guest appearance from Jay Blades (presenter of the BBC show ‘The Repair Shop’) and incredibly moving stories from three Accumulate members who spoke about their personal experiences with homelessness, discrimination, abuse and vulnerability. They spoke about how the charity’s work has supported them, and helped them build confidence and their sense of well-being especially during these uncertain times. To quote Jade, one of the speakers, ‘We are treated like we are humans again’.
Thank you to all who donated artwork or who took part in the auction!
