First look at game-changing bridge prototype
The AVA bridge will change the way bridges are commissioned, designed, installed and experienced
AVA – a consortium of companies across architecture, construction and engineering including Hawkins\Brown, Network Rail, Expedition Engineering, X-Treme Systems, and Walker Construction – has unveiled images and footage of their adaptable footbridge prototype.
Recognising that railways stations are fundamental to local communities, the bridge – funded by Innovate UK – aims to revolutionise the way footbridges are built across the UK rail network. With a bridge design that can be manufactured off-site and assembled onsite with minimum impact, the bridges will improve connectivity while saving time, money and carbon.
We know that making our stations more accessible encourages the use of our network, and we know that the increased use of our network encourages socio-economic development in communities around our railway stations - therefore driving wider regeneration in local communities.
Made with long-lasting, low-maintenance materials, the bridge comprises a light, robust stainless-steel frame with faceted cladding. Able to fit all stations and situations, the AVA bridge is designed to play a key role in the wider regeneration of an area.
